💜Why professional carers are Angels💜
When we got the diagnosis of Vascular Dementia for Mum, it explained a lot of Mums behaviour over some time. When the Consultant explained that Vascular Dementia is incurable and WILL get worse, I was devastated. My world had completely changed again. I lost my Dad in 1999 and now Mum was extremely poorly.
When I said I was determined to look after Mum myself, the Consultant and every other person I discussed Mums care with, said that I didn't realise what I would be taking on looking after Mum.
It was hard enough seeing Mum slipping further and further away from me. I was sitting in front of Mum on my 52nd birthday and Mum had no idea it was my birthday. I'd had a birthday card (sometimes two) from my Mum (and Dad) since I was born and now, Mum didn't know my birthday.
I am so extremely grateful to have had the carers that were trained, qualified and experienced to look after Dementia patients. Carers are Angels on Earth. I saw them negotiate with my Mum and help and assist with anything that was troubling Mum. I could actually enjoy being with Mum.
